Dry Needling

Dry Needling
Forefront Physio Geelong are fully equipped to help your recovery. Our Geelong Sports Physios have all completed additional training in dry needling, which has been clinically proven to reduce pain and muscle tension.
What is the difference between dry needling and acupuncture?
Dry needling is similar to acupuncture, but the aim of the treatment differs between the modalities. Dry needling involves the insertion of needles into areas of pain to release myofascial trigger points (a.k.a. knots), whereas acupuncture focuses on the treatment of a medical condition by inserting needles into predetermined areas to restore the flow of energy.
At Forefront Physiotherapy Geelong, we support dry needling as a key technique for relieving myofascial (muscle and tissue) trigger points. If left untreated, the knot can lead to compensatory muscle tightness, reduced range of motion, and pain. The muscle knot also restricts blood flow to the affected area, depriving the muscles of oxygen and hindering the removal of toxins, which further delays the recovery process.
Our team of sports physios at Forefront Physio Geelong are experienced in identifying and releasing these nodes of tight muscle to promote healing and reduce pain. Many of our clients in the Greater Geelong region have expressed their positive experience from dry needling.
