Dry Needling

Forefront Physio Geelong are better equipped to help your recovery. Our Geelong Sports Physios have all completed additional training in dry needling, which has been clinically proven to reduce pain and muscle tension.

What is the difference between dry needling and acupuncture?

Dry needling is similar to acupuncture, but the aim of treatment differs between the modalities. Dry needling involves the insertion of needles into areas of pain to release myofascial trigger points (a.k.a. knots), whereas acupuncture focuses on the treatment of a medical condition by inserting needles into predetermined areas to restore the flow of energy.

At Forefront Physio Geelong we endorse dry needling as it is important to release myofascial trigger points. Left unreleased, the “knot” causes compensatory muscle tightening, decreased range of movement and pain. The tight ‘knot’ of muscle also reduces blood flow to the affected area. This deprives muscles of oxygen and the opportunity for toxin removal which further disables the recovery process.

Our team of sports physios at Forefront Physio Geelong are experienced in identifying and releasing these nodes of tight muscle to promote healing and reduce pain. Many of our clients in the Greater Geelong region express their positive experience from dry needling.

We use dry needling to treat a variety of presenting conditions and sport injuries such as:
