Are you willing to put your body to the ultimate test of physical and mental strength to take on the world famous Ironman competition? With the event coming to Geelong  in early 2020 this could be the perfect way to achieve your new year’s resolution sooner rather than later.

The Ironman 70.3 refers to the total distance travelled through the event in miles (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile cycle, 13.1 mile run). The Ironman 70.3 is in fact half the distance of the full Ironman competition, so it is a great way of introducing the event to those who have the tick box to mark on their bucket list for the full event in Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i.

Although it may be half the distance of the full Ironman Triathlon, the Ironman 70.3 is not for the faint-hearted and is by no means an easy event. To compete you will be required to be dedicated to your training both physically and mentally in order to complete the event and reap the reward of satisfaction in knowing you have done something that most people couldn’t, so let’s get cracking!

Some things to consider in preparation for your event that can be discussed with and guided by the physiotherapists at Forefront Physio Geelong:

1. Preparation should start now. The sooner you can begin to build your endurance, the better the body is able to adapt to the increased demands put through your muscles and joints.

2. Any current or previous injuries or niggles should be assessed and treated before they become a problem leading up to the Ironman 70.3 event.

3. Consider your physical limitations, as well as strengths to determine whether you want to compete as an individual or as a team of 3.

4. If you’re a veteran to these events and have a goal in mind, come and talk to our knowledgeable physiotherapists about how to achieve your goals.
